Programs - Yoga

The Ease Cancer Foundation has certified yoga instructors who have trained in yoga that is designed to be adaptable, therapeutic and restorative. Their special training and experience has given them the tools to know how to modify and adapt the poses and movements to be safe and effective. If you are interested in participating in a gentle, therapeutic and healing practice and learning more about yoga, please sign up for one of our workshops or Contact Us.

Yoga can be done at any stage of living with cancer or at any level of physical fitness. The asanas (yoga postures), movements and breathing techniques can be adapted and modified to meet the ability of any person. Flexibility is not a requirement to practice yoga. Even individuals who have no prior experience with yoga are able to participate in the practice of yoga to get benefits. .

Restorative Yoga reduces the physical effects of stress on the body. By encouraging relaxation, yoga helps to lower levels of the stress hormone cortisol. Related benefits include lowering blood pressure, heart rate, improving digestion, boosting immune system, reducing anxiety, depression, fatigue, asthma, and insomnia. Restorative yoga can aid weight control by reducing cortisol levels, burning excess calories, and encourage healthy eating habits and well-being.

Therapeutic Yoga is a form of yoga that targets joints and glands. It is a series of gentle yoga body movements that exercise different joints and stimulate the glands. The movements relieve stiffness in joints and promote well-being and relaxation. Yoga Nidra, also known as yogic sleep, is a form of guided relaxation that takes you through different visualizations. It gives you the benefits of deep sleep without the dullness of being unconscious. Shake Your Soul and Kripalu YogaDance focus on finding joy along with freedom, passion, power, and grace. This is at the core of the Shake Your SoulĀ®: YogaDance experience. Our inner dancer is called forth and we discover the aliveness of our spirit through dance and movement.

The benefits of yoga are many, including stress relief, increased relaxation, pain relief, better breathing, improved flexibility and mobility, increased strength, improved circulation and a sense of calm and well-being. Cancer often changes the body and this can be difficult. Yoga can assist in creating a connection between your body and mind that assists in healing and allowing you a different perspective and relationship with your body.
