Our programs are designed to promote optimum physical functioning and improve quality of life.

We offer the following in our workshops and retreats for cancer survivors:

EASE Lecture and Activity Descriptions

Cancer Risk Reduction & Symptom Management. Learn evidence-based recommendations by the American Institute for Cancer Research. We will also discuss cancer prevention and risk reduction utilizing lifestyle modifications, environmental factors, supplements, and vitamin D updates.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). CBT was developed as a blend of behavioral therapy and cognitive therapy focusing on the "here and now." CBT utilizes an evidence-based, goal-oriented, and systematic approach to treat a variety of problems including anxiety, post-traumatic stress, and eating disorders. Learn and apply basic skills of CBT through both dynamic individual and interactive group activities.

The Healing Power of Art and Laughter. This session is about art as a powerful medium for self-expression, healthy reflection and enjoyment. Art and laughter boosts our energy and appreciation of life.

Implementing an Exercise Prescription. This session helps participants develop an exercise prescription and provides them an opportunity to participate in an exercise program. Specifics for exercise prescriptions (mode, intensity, frequency, duration) will be discussed along with target heart rate calculations and practice.

Kripalu DansKinetics®. Experience the power of dance to shake loose inhibitions and to replace them with the enjoyment that only expressive and free movement can bring. When you move freely and accept body, mind, and spirit with love you connect and release motivating powers within. It's a mind and body approach to spontaneous and exhilarating self-expression. Kripalu DansKinetics® uses movement to improve flexibility, cardiovascular fitness, and endurance.

Love, Laughter and Life after Cancer. This breakout session is about ways to win back your regular life after having had cancer. We will discuss common symptoms experienced and medication and non-medication treatments.

Lymphedema. Risk Reduction and Massage Techniques: Individuals will learn lymphedema risk reduction practices, which includes exercises to stimulate lymph function and lymphedema management.

Mindful Journaling. Journaling helps enhance clarity and creativity through writing. Guided mindfulness meditation will be used as a sequel into the journaling process. Affirmations help guide us to live more peacefully and lovingly towards ourselves. By the end of class, you will feel clearer, understand how your thinking affects your life, have a greater connection to inner peace, and overall well-being.

Morning Meditations. Mindfulness is a type of meditation focusing your thoughts and actions in the present. Research suggests that mindfulness meditation reduces stress, increases happiness, boosts immune function, alleviates depression, reduces blood pressure, enhances memory, and slows the aging processes. There are many benefits to creating a regular relaxation and meditation practice.

Motivational Interviewing (MI). MI is a tool designed to promote health behavior change. Learn and apply basic skills motivational interviewing techniques through dynamic interactive group activities.

Movement for Lymphatic Support. Stretching exercises to stimulate health and reduce the risk for developing lymphedema.

Music: Healing Songs and the Power of Vibration. Learn to sing overtones and vibrate your cells into harmony. Then, join with the group in composing songs in a collaborative process. We will create songs to liberate joy, hope, healing energy, and enhance overall well-being. Research in music therapy supports its effectiveness in rehabilitation, motivation, emotional support, and as an outlet for expression of feelings. Music applied in a therapeutic context may improve physical, emotional, cognitive, and social well-being.

Non-toxic cleaners. Educates on toxins in our environment and using a resource for checking for potential carcinogens in household products. You will make your own non-toxic foaming hand soap, to enjoy at home, in as step towards a cleaner environment.

Nutrition For Healthy Living & Weight Management. Learn about eating a predominantly plant based diet based on The American Institute for Cancer Research: The New American Plate to help prevent weight gain and protect against those cancers whose risk is convincingly increased by higher body fat (i.e. cancers of the colon, esophagus, endometrium, pancreas, kidney, and breast).

Personal Environmentalism. Presents the importance of environmental factors, overviews toxicity in our surroundings, included in our home & personal care, and the associated risks for immune & hormonal health and beyond.

Pilates. Pilates is a body conditioning routine that helps to not only build flexibility, but also strength, endurance, and coordination in the legs, abdominals, arms and back.

Relationships: Sleep, Stress, and Fatigue. Challenges of the mind and body may cause adrenal imbalances. Cortisol is released in response to stress, but excessive amounts impact immune function, bone metabolism, memory, skin, weight, and more. We'll discuss the practice of mindfulness, cognitive behavioral therapy, and sleep hygiene to reduce intrusive thoughts, cognitive distortions, and overall stress.

Restorative Yoga. This soothing and well-supported yoga practice offers you the opportunity to reduce the physical effects of stress on the body and mind while encouraging relaxation. It is designed to be adaptive to each person and flexibility is not required for participation.

Sea-kayaking. This section will provide an opportunity to kayak as a group. Basic kayak instructions and safety will be discussed. All equipment will be provided (boats, paddles, life vests), and any level from beginner to expert can attend. Dress appropriately as you may get a bit wet.

Shake Your Soul® YogaDance. Finding joy along with freedom, passion, power, and grace is at the core of this YogaDance experience. This body and soul workout renews our spirits, energizes our bodies, and calms our minds providing clarity within ourselves and nurturing a sense of community with others.

Survivorship Long-term Issues. Learn more about possible late effects of cancer treatment (chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery) and possible long-term complications of being a cancer survivor. This session also includes an "ask the expert" opportunity.

Symptom management. Learn ways to reduce fatigue, depression, and anxiety through lifestyle modifications with diet and exercise. We'll also be discussing techniques to aid with hormonal disturbances including hot flashes and sleep disturbances, osteoporosis, and cognitive dysfunction.

Therapeutic Yoga. This yoga practice is a series of gentle yoga body movements that focus on different joints and muscles to relieve stiffness and improve flexibility. It is designed to be adaptive to each person and flexibility is not required for participation. It promotes well-being and relaxation.

Visual Art: Inner Journey through the Mandala Drawing. The mandala, or circle drawing, is an ancient path of self-discovery by offering a means of accessing and facilitating psychospiritual development. Circle drawing was not fully recognized for its psychological significance until Carl Jung's work, which he referred to as the "individual process." Enjoy experimenting with color, texture, symmetry, and lines, and then use these elements with your own personal imagery to createimages of strength, inner peace, and stability.

Yoga Nidra. This yoga practice is also known as yogic sleep. It is a form of guided relaxation, which takes you through different visualizations. It gives you the benefits of deep sleep without the dullness of being unconscious.

Whole Food Cooking Classes. Utilize anti-inflammatory nutrition strategies to optimize energy, digestion, and immune function. Foods that are as close to their whole form as possible are higher in nutrient values, giving your body better building blocks for healing and repair. All tasty recipes will be dairy-free, wheat-free, and sugar-free, so also beneficial for those with allergies, other medical conditions, and desiring to manage a healthy weight.
